Energy We use energy in everything that we do. Your breakfast gives you energy to walk, talk and do everything for the day. But everything that doesn't eat (like cars, kettles, computers, etc.) need to get their energy from somewhere else! More often than not their source of energy is electricity. The thing is - electricity itself is not that harmful to the environment. Apart from the huge pylons used to carry it around the country being a bit of an eyesore, electricity does no harm. It's the way we make electricity (all you physicists out there know that we don't 'make' electricity - but hey!) that is cause for concern. I'm sure that you are all aware of the main way that we make electricity - fossil fuels (usually coal) being burnt. The carbon released from this burning is then released into the atmosphere and can be very harmful... There are better ways though! Solar energy, Hydro Electric Power (H.E.P.) and even trapping the energy of waves are becoming more popular sources of energy. But rather than campaigning to close down your nearest polluting energy plant, it's far easier and much better if you just take a few moments to think about the way that you use energy around your home and around your school. You may well be surprised as to how much energy you can save. PLUS: saving energy also saves you MoNeY!!!!! So there's no excuse... |
