Why not have a debate on the topic of global warming?

At home you can talk the subject over with others in your house. How much to do they know about it? Is it a serious problem or just media hype? Do some of your own research into the subject and make up your own mind. See 'key resources' below for more information from the internet or check out your local library.

At school you can be divided into teams arguing the key points with one team proposing that global warming is a serious problem and the other team claiming that it is a natural phenomena that is normal within global climatic patterns. Below are some points that both teams ought to be considering:

• What is Global Warming?
• What do scientists believe is causing it? Explain what different chemicals and gases are doing to our atmosphere, and why the results are so dangerous.
• What are is effects? Does it simply mean we get warmer summers? If so, why is that a bad thing?
• Can anything be done to stop global warming? Do we want to stop it?

You should use various different resources, such as books, videos and the internet to complete your research and then come together and get the two groups to debate their viewpoint.
